Home Doesn’t Have to be a Place
Jasmine Scrivano
I am from a place of miracles
Born almost a month early with a small chance to live
I am from a harsh start in life
Fights and tears
Divorce and heartbreak
I am from a strong-minded and powerful family
Through thick and thin
Who never leaves each other's sides
I am from the smell of freshly made enchiladas
Tamales made on Christmas day
The crack of a coke bottle each week
Sitting around the table with laughter and memories
I am from heartbreak and lessons that have been taught
To follow my dreams to never give up
To live the life I want with happiness all around
With endless support and a push for success
I am from warm hugs and comfort
Guidance and reassurance
That there’s always someone there
The place I call home is not a physical place but a place with love and care
My little ones running around
Constant noises of laughter and cheer
The place I call home is not the place I’ve lived in for 10 years
It’s a place with endless hugs, endless kisses and rubs on the back
A place like no other that is not physical
But a place I know I can always go back to
The place I call home can travel with me wherever I go
Near or far, always by my side
My partner in crime and my bestfriend
The place where I’m from, who made me who I am today
My beautiful mother who always knows the right things to say
